We are planning six days in one city in late autumn. I am naturally up early and like museums or markets soon after opening. My partner is miserable before about 10 and would rather stay out later.
On previous trips we have made the mistake of compromising every single day, which mostly means I sit around waiting in the morning and they spend the first hour feeling rushed. Neither person is exactly delighted by this excellent system.
My current thought is to plan two mornings where I go out alone for coffee, a market or a long walk, then meet around 10:30. On the other days we start together. Anything with a fixed entry time goes late morning or afternoon, and I will stop pretending an 8:30 breakfast reservation is a neutral choice.
We are both fine doing some things separately; we just do not want the trip to feel like parallel holidays.
For couples or friends with very different body clocks, did you find a rhythm that worked without keeping score about who was “compromising” more?
